THE UNITED NATIONS ENVOY VISITS TANZANIA PEACEKEEPING TRAINING CENTRE

The United Nations Under Secretary General Mr Christian Saunders has visited the Tanzania Peacekeeping Training Centre located at Kunduchi in Dar es Salaam city on September 27,2024. His visit aimed at strengthening international efforts to combat sexual violence especially in conflict areas. Mr Saunders met with the officers of the center as well as Peacekeeping training participants and discussed the best methods to combat gender violence. He also emphasized the importance of good preparation for officers and men before deployment in UN Missions.
In his speech, Mr Saunders explained that Tanzania is an excellent example of how countries can cooperate with the United Nations in carrying out Peacekeeping duties. He praised Tanzania’s efforts in providing high quality training to Peacekeepers and promised more aid from the United Nations.
Mr Saunders emphasized that gender violence is a major problem that requires international cooperation to face it. He explained that Peacekeepers need special training to be able to deal with the difficult situations they encounter in conflict areas. He added that the United Nations will continue to cooperate with Tanzania and provide the necessary training support.
The visit strengthened international cooperation in maintaining Peace and fighting gender based violence. Mr Saunders called on the international community to continue supporting peace and security efforts, saying that peace is the basis for sustainable development and the well being of all societies. He emphasized that fighting Gender based violence is everyone’s responsibility and the United Nations will continue to be at the forefront of those efforts.
In Conclusion, Mr Saunders thanked Tanzania for it’s great contribution in maintaining Peace and Security in Africa and around the world. This visit has shown the commitment of the United Nations in fighting gender based violence and strengthening peace in the world.
