TPDF SIGNS MILESTONE AGREEMENT TO WOMEN’S PARTICIPATION IN PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS
The Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF), in collaboration with UN Women Tanzania, the University of Dar es Salaam and the National Bureau of Statistics, has entered into a significant agreement aimed at increasing women’s participation in peacekeeping operations.
The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officiated by the Chief of Staff of the TPDF, Lieutenant General Salum Haji Othman. The agreement marks the implementation of the Measuring Opportunities for Women in Peace Operations (MOWIP) project, funded by the Elsie Initiative Fund.

Speaking during the event, Lieutenant General Othman described the agreement as a major milestone in Tanzania’s efforts to strengthen and accelerate the participation of women in peacekeeping missions. He emphasized that women’s participation is not only a matter of equality, but also a strategic approach that enhances operational effectiveness and mission success.
This collaboration reinforces Tanzania’s commitment to implementing the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, as well as the National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security, with the goal of ensuring inclusive and effective participation in global peacekeeping efforts.
